Beyoncé

BEYONCÉ:
A modern feminist

Some people might argue that Beyoncé is nothing more than a talented singer. But she is much more than that, she is a woman's activist, supporter of equal rights, and a mother. Of course we all know her for her hit songs but did you know that one of her most famous songs (Flawless) was sampled from a TED talk by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie titled "We Should all be Feminists". Yup that's right, Beyoncé sampled a TED talk about feminism. In a lot of Queen B's songs, you get a sense of empowerment. In fact, her song "Run the World" is entirely about strong independent women who can be successful without the help of men. Her songs encourage women to exert their full potential in whatever they are doing so they can accomplish anything.

Bey is a role model for many young women. She teaches through her songs and performances. She tells these women to be comfortable with your sexuality, and that its okay to do something that people might criticize you for. Beyoncé is one of the most notable singers in a music culture mostly controlled by men. She was strong and determined to make it big and that's just what she did. She is paving a road across America for women to march on (not literally of course). So many people have heard Bey's songs and agreed with  the message she is portraying.

Beyoncé's newest studio album, Lemonade, was made into a video album. For those of you that don't know what that is, its basically a bunch of music videos put together to make a story.  Beyoncé shares with us that the Lemonade is about the healing process that women have to struggle to go through during tough times.

In the video above, Beyoncé is telling us that it's okay to make mistakes and that no one is perfect. but its what you do after you make a mistake that makes you who you are. She also tells us that we are not supposed to settle for what we have or what we do, we're supposed to strive and reach for better opportunities that will make us better humans.

  1. Great blog post!
I love how you chose a more modern woman warrior for your post. Beyonce is someone who many young females (males too) look up to. The way she expresses her feelings through her songs and dances shows other members of society to be comfortable in their own skin. I also loved the video you added into your post. Her "reach for the stars" moto is very inspirational. I too believe that we should strive to be our best and to set goals for ourselves.

  2. Honestly who doesn't love Beyonce. I really enjoyed your blog because I believe Beyonce is an awesome role model. Her female empowerment movement has impacted me personally, and I think many other young girls as well. Her body positive, sexuality positive messages are really important in today's society, and I'm glad she's being regarded as the female role model she's strived to be.

  3. I have loved Beyonce since I can even remember! From her music, to her outfits, to who she is as a mother I have never disliked a single aspect of Beyonce! I think that Beyonce is an inspiration for woman because she promotes healthy body image and teaches women to love themselves and not let anything get them down. I think that by teaching people that no one is perfect and everyone makes mistakes is a way to have a more positive and uplifting outcome to any situation. One thing that I have always loved about Beyonce was that she took her flaws, learned to love them and that is how she became "flawless!"

I really loved your blog post about Beyonce, Her female empowerment movement was truly incredible, As a girl her movement impacted me. In todays day and age it is hard to feel pretty in a world where everyone thinks skinny is pretty when you aren't. How she took her imperfections and started to love them and thought she was flawless is very inspirational. Lastly, i love how you did a present person.
