  Sojourner Truth was born in Upstate, NY .  Her maiden name was Isabella Baumfree. They weren't sure on what day and year she was born because back then slaves did not have their birth recorded . She was born into slavery and both her parents was as well. Sojourner dedicated her entire life to abolishing slavery and recruiting black troops. Sojourner Truth  is a warrior women because she represented African women and Men. She had the courage to stand against the society and accomplish half of her dreams. She became a role model to the African Society and a lot of people respected her because she fought for equality. She lost her family, her freedom and she still found the strength to move forward and accomplish her goals .







                                                                                                   In 1844, she joined The Northampton Association of Education with other activists. It was based on supporting women rights and pacifism. I t only lasted two years but that did not stop her from participating in other events. She went touring with Frederick Douglas and spoke to large crowds about slavery and human rights in general. Not only was she a women but she was an escaped slave who instilled the idea that African Americans deserved freedom as well.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         Sojourner Truth speaking                After President Lincoln's law passed she still was not satisfied  and wanted the rights for blacks to  ride in the same car as whites. The most important goal she wanted to achieve was for blacks to have land grants and to have their private property.

She wrote a memoir called " The Narrative of Sojourner Truth: A Northern Slave" She died in her home on College street on November  26 1883. It was reported that over 1000 people attended her funeral. They never knew how old she was and so some people said she was 105 years old and others thought she was 86 years old. She was called " Worlds Oldest lecturer"

  1. Wow! So I've heard of Sojourner but didn't know what she contributed to slavery and African Americans. She really seemed like a force to be reckoned with. And the fact they didn't know how old she was really adds to the mystery and sadness of who and what she was capable of.
